Mathematical Research Data Initiative, Issue 18

This illustration is for the 18th edition of MaRDI’s quarterly newsletter. After completing 14 newsletter illustrations for them over a three-year period, this phase of the MaRDI project was drawing to a close. As such, the client wanted me to come up with an illustration that symbolized looking forward into the future, to whatever the next phase of MaRDI would be. Their initial idea was to show a map featuring miniature versions of some of my illustrations for previous newsletters; I drew a small town instead, with some people looking forward at a futuristic city…vaguely inspired by Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz.
